“We design and deliver steel built closed containment units”
VARIG
VARIG is a long-term and reliable solution for fish production. It has a long lifespan, provides stable conditions, and does not expose the environment to more emissions than necessary. In this way, we aim to contribute to the development of the industry in a stable and sustainable manner.
It has 10,000 m³ of free water volume. The tank design ensures excellent hydraulics and efficient utilization of the water volume.
With a construction time of 8 months, the design is well suited for serial production, and we are currently capable of delivering 30 facilities per year.
VARIG has low energy consumption and systems that collect both sludge and feed waste. It can easily be connected to existing infrastructure for energy, feeding, and handling of dead fish.
It is very well suited for the production of post-smolt, but can also be used for the entire production cycle up to harvest-size fish.
The design complies with consequence class 3 and meets the requirements of the ETS criteria and MAB recovery regulations.
Water circulation
The facility is a flow-through system that can intake water from the desired depth. The water can be treated using a physical filter and/or a UV filter.
A total pumping capacity of over 15,000 m³/h provides strong capacity and redundancy. There are two inlet towers feeding into the fish tank, distributing water throughout the entire depth. The water circulates toward the center and exits through the patented central column. The absence of dead zones and a uniform flow pattern ensure optimal conditions for the fish.
Weather tight
A light- and weather-tight fish tank minimizes external disturbances. It also provides a workplace that is sheltered from the elements.
Lighting inside the tank is positioned beneath the walkway, thereby avoiding unnecessary disturbance to the fish. Fish that are not unnecessarily disturbed have better appetite, improved welfare, and faster growth.
Waste collection
The facility is equipped with a system for collecting sludge. This is pumped to a filter located on the feed barge or on the cage.
Estimates indicate that this system can capture up to 90% of the solid sludge. This is a nutrient-rich material that can be utilized in new value chains and generate additional revenue.
Oxygen
Maintaining the correct oxygen level in the water is essential for ensuring good living conditions and optimal growth for the fish.
Regardless of the depth from which water is sourced or the oxygen levels in the seawater, the onboard systems will ensure the appropriate oxygen levels are maintained.
VARIG can be used in many ways, both in combination with other production methods or as a standalone solution. Each fish farmer has their own needs and practices. We believe VARIG can contribute to increased production and improved fish welfare, regardless of those needs.
